Policy Objective 3:
Promoting regional social cohesion through the strengthening of mechanisms and services to support human resources, employment, education, healthcare, socio-economic inclusion, equal opportunities and addressing the risks of poverty and exclusion. The total Budget allocated to the Municipality of Piraeus for the implementation of the projects of Policy Objective 3 is €10,860,000.00.
Action 1
Network of Services for the Prevention and Combating of Discrimination and Improving the Quality of Life of Vulnerable and Special Groups, including People with Disabilities, Adolescents, Young People at High Social Risk, etc. in the Municipality of Piraeus:
The purpose of the proposed Act is to implement a set of actions to prevent and address discrimination and improve the quality of life of Vulnerable and Special Groups that constitute groups at high risk of social exclusion and discrimination (including disabled people, adolescents and young people at high social risk, etc.) in the Municipality of Piraeus, such as:
• actions for open social inclusion and alleviation of discrimination of minors and adults with disabilities and their families
• actions for the prevention of juvenile delinquency and addressing social stigma in the neighborhoods of Piraeus
• actions for open care and assistance, including the prevention and timely addressing of discrimination and support for elderly people belonging to vulnerable and special social groups
Action 2
Expanding Access of Vulnerable Groups to Social Care Services and Actions and Promoting Social Inclusion – Development of a Social Services Provision Network with Multi-channel Access for Beneficiaries in the Municipality of Piraeus:
Through the Social Services Provision Network with multi-channel access of beneficiaries in the Municipality of Piraeus, the citizens of Piraeus and especially the most vulnerable groups of the population, such as Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), beneficiaries of Social Solidarity Income, immigrants, Roma, unemployed beneficiaries of social protection programs, etc., are provided with the opportunity to have easy access to a wide range of integrated support services for their social integration and their promotion in employment. With the implementation of the project, on-site support of beneficiaries will now be possible, with local reference points in the respective Municipal Districts and continuous service / monitoring of the social integration of beneficiaries through a network of 3 Antennas, 2 Mobile Units and a Help Desk office. This network will provide decentralized (locally at the Municipal Unit level, instead of the one and only Community Center structure in the city center) social care and social inclusion promotion services. Piraeus residents will be able to contact the Antenna or Mobile Unit closest to them in order to be informed about welfare and social inclusion programs, to join these programs and to collaborate with specialized scientists who will help them deal with potential problems.
Action 3
New Social Hub to upgrade equal and timely access to quality, sustainable and affordable social services in Piraeus:
The Public Benefit Municipal Enterprise of Piraeus (KODEP) through the Social Hub action of the Municipality of Piraeus is planning the operation of a Mechanism for the targeted implementation of social inclusion actions, combating poverty and eliminating social exclusion in the Municipality of Piraeus.
In summary, the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy of Piraeus, with the special development potential of the Blue Economy and the Maritime Network as a catalyst, was developed comprehensively and multifacetedly, utilizing the possibilities offered by its cultural reserve for the enrichment and diversification of its tourism product, in order to establish a modern sustainable development profile. For the success of the project, it is necessary to develop social actions to support and empower the local community, centered on the need for equal inclusion of all citizens, towards integration and social cohesion.
